Family TV

A little something from you

Photos are planned. YouTube is in early testing.

In development · Not yet available to buy

A TV. A phone. A little connection.

Three simple steps. Secure phone pairing is new and is being tested with a simulated TV before it reaches real boxes.

  1. Step 1

    Plug in the box

Connect the configured Family TV box to the TV's HDMI port and the home internet.

  2. Step 2

    Scan the code

On the TV, choose “Pair a phone”. A family member scans the code to connect their phone.

  3. Step 3

    Send something familiar

Paste a YouTube link on your phone. The TV is asked to open it — no menus for the viewer.

What families can share

Early testing

YouTube videos

Familiar news, music and favourite clips. Subject to YouTube's availability, ads and account requirements.

Planned

Family photos

Private photo sharing to the TV, once secure storage and the TV app are ready and tested.

Planned

Family videos

Short personal videos from a phone, with clear limits and automatic deletion.

Planned

Help from anywhere

Approved relatives can help from another town or country once the secure service is complete.

See how Family TV could work

A short demonstration film will appear here once it's been recorded. Until then, here's the storyboard.

Demo video coming soon — storyboard

  1. 1

Sarah, in another city, opens the Family TV page on her phone.

  2. 2

She pastes a link to her dad's favourite music clip and taps Send.

  3. 3

Dad's TV opens the video in YouTube. He can stop it any time with his remote.

Asking by voice — in development

“Find the latest news video and send it to Family TV.”

We're working on letting a compatible AI assistant send a video when you ask it. It will need a supported assistant, your explicit permission and internet access, and availability will vary. This website doesn't record your voice, and no assistant or broadcaster endorses Family TV.

Designed around families

Set up before it arrives

The box is intended to arrive configured, so it's a matter of plugging it in rather than learning a new system.

Only approved phones

A phone connects only by scanning a short-lived, one-time code shown on the TV. The first phone paired can remove others.

Privacy as a design goal

We store as little as possible: no names of the person watching, no health details, no YouTube passwords. See the draft privacy notes.

A person to help

We plan to offer a real person to contact for help. Contact details will be published before launch.
